Arid Zone Ecology Forum 2026 Conference

The Arid Zone Ecology Forum (AZEF) will host its 2026 Conference from 13 to 15 October 2026 at the NG Kerksaal in Kamieskroon. A pre-conference workshop will take place on 12 October 2026. Registration opens in May 2026, and early booking is strongly encouraged as delegate numbers may be limited.

This year’s conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and students to engage on critical issues shaping arid landscapes and the people who depend on them. The programme will explore resilient rangelands and how life can be sustained in arid environments, shifting environmental conditions and the drivers behind them, and the role of people in conservation and future landscape planning. The conference will also cover foundational themes in ecology, focusing on biodiversity and ecosystem science in arid zones.

Key Dates and Fees

Early bird registration closes on 21 August 2026. Fees are set at R5,900 for early bird delegates and R4,900 for students. This deadline also applies to abstract submissions and student sponsorship applications.

Final registration closes on 11 September 2026. Standard registration is R6,900, student registration is R5,900, and the pre-conference workshop is available for R500.

Student Sponsorship Opportunities

Postgraduate students will have the opportunity to apply for sponsored attendance once registration opens. Applicants must indicate their intention to submit an abstract for a full, speed, or poster presentation in order to be considered. Sponsorship includes conference registration, meals, and accommodation. Travel costs to and from the conference are not included.
