CIVIC +264 Hosts Civil Society Workshop on the Government of the Republic of Namibia Civic Organisations Partnership Policy and Related Matters

On Monday, 22 August 2022, the Civil Society Information Centre Namibia (CIVIC +264) hosted a Workshop on the Government of the Republic of Namibia Civic Organisations Partnership Policy  (GRN-COPP) and related matters.

The workshop presented an opportunity for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to better understand the GRN-COPP, the roll-out of the review process, and the CSOs Help Desk Services at the National Planning Commission (NPC). This was enabled through presentations from the Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Namibia (EPDN) programme (Dr Anthony Tsekpo), and the NPC.

On a related matter, the Chairperson of the Social Contracting Coordinating Committee, Adv. John Walters, briefed participants on GRN initiatives for social contracting and payments.

Through Ms Engwase Mwale (the CEO of Financial Sector Deepening Zambia) - as a case study -participating CSOs were also able to learn about the existing Legislative Framework in Zambia for Civil Society to operate.

The Executive Director of the Namibia Development Trust (NDT), Mr Ronny Dempers, gave an overview of the GRN-COPP and facilitated a discussion on strengthening coordination, collaboration and information sharing among Civic Organisations to streamline engagement between Government and Civic Organisations.
