Namibia Solidarity Campaign Launches Urgent Fundraising Drive for Cuba
In a robust demonstration of historical solidarity, the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association (NAMCUFA), in consultation with the Sam Nujoma Foundation and key stakeholders, has announced the launch of a national fundraising campaign to send humanitarian aid to the Republic of Cuba. Following high-level engagements on April 7, 2026, with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, and former Parliamentarian Helmuth Kangulohi Angula, the campaign aims to mobilize resources to assist the Cuban people facing severe economic challenges.
This initiative responds to the worsening economic situation on the island caused by the ongoing United States blockade. "Cuba is our all-weather friend, dating back to the days of fighting colonial oppression to key developmental initiatives post-independence," said Honourable Helmuth Kangulohi Angula, representing the solidarity campaign. "Now, when the Cuban people are in a difficult situation regarding food, medicine, and essential supplies, it is our duty to support them."
The "Solidarity with Cuba" campaign is appealing to all sectors of Namibian society—government institutions, the private sector, religious organizations, and the public—to contribute to a unified national response.
- Key Objectives of the Campaign:
- Collection of Humanitarian Aid: Funds are urgently needed to purchase medicine, food items, and school materials for students.
- Support Against Sanctions: To intensify the call for the lifting of the unjust U.S. economic, commercial, and financial embargo against Cuba.
- Strengthening Bilateral Ties: To honor the blood pact forged during the struggle for Namibia's liberation and the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale. "We encourage all Namibians to donate generously to this worthy cause. Our solidarity with Cuba is unwavering, and our support is a token of gratitude for their enduring sacrifices for our freedom," added Chairman of the Steering Committee, Bob Kandetu.

- Items should be delivered to Sam Nujoma Foundation.
About the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association: The association works to strengthen the ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the peoples of Namibia and Cuba.
