High-level dialogue on Namibia & the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)
The Eco Dialogue Collective project will host a dialogue event titled “Namibia & the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)” on Thursday, 5 February 2026, from 14h00 to 17h00 at the Hilton Hotel, Windhoek.
The dialogue event aims to raise awareness of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and explore how Namibia could benefit from joining the global transparency standard for the extractives sector, inclusive of mining, oil and gas.
The Eco Dialogue Collective (EDC) is a joint initiative of the IPPR, Legal Assistance Centre, Namibia Media Trust, and DW Akademie in partnership with the European Union. The EDC aims to create a structured space for dialogue on governance, transparency and accountability in Namibia’s natural resource sectors.
The dialogue comes at a critical moment for Namibia as it navigates growing investment and governance pressures in its mining, oil and gas sectors. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s stated commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability and anti-corruption efforts makes the discussion particularly timely
The programme will include presentations on how the EITI works, the governance landscape of Namibia’s extractive industries, and a panel discussion on the implications of EITI membership for government, industry and civil society. Speakers include representatives from the international EITI Secretariat, civil society, and the mining and petroleum sectors.
The event will conclude with a discussion on possible next steps for Namibia in relation to extractive sector transparency and governance reform.
