About CIVIC +264

CIVIC +264 is Namibia’s national civil society information hub, dedicated to strengthening the visibility, voice, and impact of civil society organizations (CSOs). We connect, inform, and support a wide range of civic actors, from wellfare organisations to those working to advance human rights, democratic participation, transparency, and social justice across the country.

Founded on the belief that an informed and connected civil society is vital to democracy, we serve as a platform for coordination, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration. Our work amplifies the contributions of CSOs and supports inclusive, accountable governance by enhancing the ability of civil society to engage with government, development partners, and each other.

What We Do

  • Information Sharing: We gather and disseminate timely updates on policy developments, legislative processes, civic events, and opportunities relevant to Namibian CSOs.
  • Capacity Support: We offer workshops, briefings, and access to resources that strengthen civil society’s ability to engage effectively in public participation, advocacy, and oversight.
  • Convening & Dialogue: We facilitate inclusive dialogue among CSOs, government institutions, and international partners to build capacity on key issues and coordinate collective action.
  • Civic Space Monitoring: We monitor developments in civic space and provide platforms for civil society to respond to challenges that may affect freedom of association, expression, and participation.
  • Policy Engagement: We support civil society input into national development planning, public policy, and international human rights processes.

Our Approach

CIVIC +264 is not a membership-based organization. We are a neutral support structure open to all Namibian CSOs, whether formal or informal, large or small, urban or rural. Our approach is grounded in the principles of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and locally-driven solutions. We work in partnership with CSOs, development agencies, research institutions, and the state, toward shared democratic values.

Our Name

The “+264” in our name is Namibia’s international dialing code, symbolizing our national reach and our commitment to providing a connective point for civil society from all sectors and regions of the country.

The aim of CIVIC +264 is to create a database of active civil society organisations in Namibia and a website for information sharing amongst those organisations.
